New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the state's marriage equality bill hours after it passed the Republican-controlled Senate on Friday night, making it the sixth state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage.
Cuomo signed the bill into law after the legislature cleared the way to legalize same-sex marriage with a 33-to-29 vote, the first time a state Senate with a Republican majority has approved such a bill.
The new law, which will allow same-sex couples in New York to marry within 30 days, drew a sharp rebuke from opponents, who spent millions to try to defeat the measure.
This is awesome news for NY. I'm ecstatic and proud of how far NY have come in this current situation. I'm still surprised that California is still not able to commit to this and its usually known that California is the most progressive state in the United States, but it seems to be a different case in these past few years.
Its so funny because when I posted this last night on my facebook page, I did get a couple of backlash. And honestly if you're one of those people who feel like GAY marriage is going to affect your lifestyle in anyway, then I seriously think there is something wrong with your psychological thinking. Its one thing to disagree with it, but the negative connotations taken against it can be left in the dust. Just STFU and let these people celebrate their lifestyle.
